On April 4th, 2017 I had the chance to share my knowledge and experience with a group of local artists and students in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The topic of the seminar was an introduction to what I call Illustrative Realism, which is the art style that I was trained in and used in my professional career as an illustrator, concept designer and movie poster artist in Los Angeles, California.
This seminar has been a dream of mine since I made the decision to move back to my native Southeast Asia (I am originally from the Philippines). One of my goals and motivations for coming to Asia was to share the knowledge and experience I gained studying the great western art tradition I learned while living in California, USA.
The knowledge I learned in Southern California is some of the best drawing information available and is taught by some of the best artists in the world. The knowledge I’ve learned has brought so much value to my life. Sharing this information is my way of giving back to the great mentors that have taught me, and I hope that my knowledge and experience can have a positive affect on other young artists, like it did for me.
Below are some images from the workshop and a short video clip. Special thank you to Coffee or Me for the photos and for hosting the event.
Handout – Shape and Value Fundamentals
The attendees of the seminar received a handout as a visual guide and reference. This first workshop introduced the topic of Shape and Value, which are two of the core principles of my drawing philosophy.
If you’re interested in the information presented at the workshop, the 7 page pdf version of the handout is available for download on my subscriber exclusive page. Are You Looking for a Speaker for your Event?
If you’re in Asia and want to book an experienced and passionate speaker, please contact me by email at drawwitchris[at]gmail[dot]com. Please put “speaker” in the subject line and let me know about your conference or organization. Besides teaching to live classes, I’ve spoken in Singapore at the Game Developer’s Conference, LucasArts and was a practicing member of Toastmasters International in San Diego, U.S.A.
My goal is to share my knowledge and experience with as many young artists and students as possible. Chiang Mai is just the first in what I hope will be many more workshops and seminars to come.
